THE ARCAURA – DESIGN BRIEF
Located in a leafy affluent Melbourne suburb, the focus for this knock-down re-build project, as presented to our architect included the need to have an impressive contemporary look from the front street view, creating the impression of a luxury upmarket home.
A mix of different materials to the front was encouraged to provide distinction and to create visual interest.
To meet the needs of an active family, the ground floor is to provide the day to day living spaces together with a study, which must have close proximity to a bathroom to allow this room to be converted into a guest bedroom for the occasional stay over by a babysitter
or extra family members.
A double lock-up garage is a must for car security. The rear north-facing yard is perfect for the location of the kitchen, family room, and alfresco area, with design consideration for a future in-ground swimming pool.
The master bedroom, plus another 3 bedrooms and a separate kids retreat are to be located to the first floor.
With the use of rendered masonry, large glass sections, and feature colorbond metal cladding this house meets the design needs by creating a bespoke, strong visual presence with lots of integration.
The square, modern contemporary design provides a strong visual sense, complemented by a front verandah off the master bedroom to add another element of interest. Step inside the entry where you’re greeted with a double-height ceiling void, creating an instant feeling of openness, sense of space, light, and luxury.
To accommodate the needs of an active family the ground floor provides two living areas, giving the family flexibility with entertaining options. A focus at the rear is a roofed alfresco area for year-round comfortable outdoor living.
Passive solar design principles have been considered and adopted by the architect, creating both a healthy, bright living environment, but also importantly assisting energy efficiency resulting in reduced energy running costs, while being mindful of and assisting global warming challenges and considerations.
